We set off to see Victoria Peak - the highest mountain on Hong Kong island - which is a major tourist attraction.
Walking to the train station, we stumbled upon this quaint and peaceful sitting space. Reminds me of New York. |
Another hot day! |
Came out of the train station to this. That building in the back, is BofA. |
It's so easy to find your way around. |
5 minute walk to the tram that will take us up to the Peak. |
I will never get over how spectacular all of these skyscrapers are. |
We're here! |
Photo display of how the trams have evolved. |
Waiting in line. |
Ooh, we got here just in time. |
All aboard! Everybody is excited! |
Steep uphill climb. |
Up, up, and away.... |
WHOA!!!!!! |
OMG, so pretty. I wasn't ready for this.
No words. Such a great view of the Pearl River!! |
FUN FACT: The name "Hong Kong" translates in Cantonese to mean “Fragrant Harbour”. The name used to be the single word “Hongkong” until the government adopted the current form in 1926. Supposedly, the reference to fragrance refers to the sweet taste of the fresh water in Pearl River, which lines the coast to the north of Kowloon.
At the top is a mall and looking view called The Peak Tower. There are coin operated telescopes up there. |
The mall is called Peak Galleria, and it had a lot of familiar shops and eateries. Every venue had the perfect view of Hong Kong. |
People come and make a day of it. Lunch, ice cream, shopping, dinner... it's so pretty, why rush back home? |
Hubby checking out the inside of an old tram. |
We did a little shopping in the mall and saw this sign. They have to pay for shopping bags too!!! It started on April 14, 2015. |
These signs are everywhere, all over China. Mind your step. Mind your head. Mind the elderly. They were even at the Peak too. |
We walked to the other side of the peak - the less photographed side. |
WOW!! This may actually be nicer. |
Selfie without a view. The sun was too bright. |
These flats, btw, are worth a billion dollars each. Only the super rich live here. And only part-time. But get this, from 1904 - 1930 only NON-CHINESE could live here, as mandated by a racial zoning law. Crazy. |
Bubba Gump Shrimp is at the Peak too. We had a cold one. And some Jelly Belly's from the candy store :-) |
Super nice bartender. |
One last view before we headed back down to civilization. |
The tram goes down the hill BACKWARDS!!! It was like a bonus roller coaster. |
What a nice day!
