Someone went two-hands-in, for my hair.
I was sitting out in the sunshine. In the vast and busy plaza of a train station in Shenzhen, waiting for my hubby to return from picking up his 2 business suits that he paid a Shenzhen tailor to make for him.
I saw her a mile away. She was smiling from ear-to-ear and making a bee-line for me. With each step closer she kept saying, “Hello.” Finally she was right in my face. Like, nose-to-nose.
She giggled and said, “Hello" with a smile as bright as Miss America. I smiled back and said, “Hello."
Then she pointed at me and said, “Pretty”, and giggled. I returned the compliment, “You’re pretty.” She giggled some more.
Then she put both hands in my hair. I saw it coming, like in super slow motion. Her arms moving up as she was saying, “Helloooooooooo", again. It took everything in me not to flinch away. But I think I didn't because she was looking at my curls in the palm of her hand with the wide-eyed wonder of a child.
After a few seconds, I said, “Bye bye”. She nodded, understanding, and with each step away she kept smiling at me saying, “Bye bye” in return.
Then, I swear to goodness, I saw her skipping away to her destination.
Harmless.
