Buddhism is the most prominent religion in Guangzhou, but there are many Muslim and Christian communities too. We decided to take a train to the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees and Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral.

This is how you don't get lost. Plan ahead in the hotel room. |
 |
The trains are so easy. You tell the machine where you want to go. |
The Temple of the Six Banyan Trees is an ancient Buddhist temple originally built in 537 AD in the Liang dynasty. It is a regular destination for families participating in the international adoption of children from China. Typically, families receive blessings for their newly adopted children at this temple in front of the statue of Kuan Yin.
I said prayers for my own family, and for my family that is yet to come.
Here are some pictures of the beautiful and serene space:

When you enter, you are give incense to light for your prayer and/or offerings. |
 |
Check out the "wall paper" in the back. |
 |
All of these people are dead. |
 |
Offerings to the deceased. |
 |
This is where I put my prayers for me and my hubby. |
We also visited Sacred Heart Cathedral. It was closed when we arrived. But the grounds keeper let us in anyway.
Sacred Heart is the city's largest Catholic Church with Gothic style, all-granite structure, and exquisite decorations.
What a great day!
