We boarded a train from Shenzhen to Guangzhou exhausted. I’m talking, as soon as I sat down in my assigned seat, I fell asleep exhausted. Hubby woke me up 2 hours later as the train jerked to a stop in Guangzhou. I’m not sure who woke him up, because he was fast asleep before me. But however it happen, thank goodness - because we could have awakened in Northern China. LOL
We stepped off train into the hot, humid night air. A neon electronic weather sign said 95 degrees. Humidity 70%. At 10:30pm!!!
But what caught my attention even more, was the architecture. This, is what I was expecting China to look like.
The city Guangzhou has been around since 206 B.C.. And in 1683, it quickly emerged as a huge port for international trade from all over the world. Currently, Guangzhou is the third largest Chinese city, and is the largest city in South Central China. In 2014, the census estimated a population of 14.08 million.
Here are some sights:
Coming off the train |
This is what it looks like in the day. Motorcycle taxis wait outside the train station |
Vendors selling street food, fruit and all types of "stuff" from electronics to light bulbs to fancy pots & pans. |
Just one of many fruit stands (they all smell really bad -- the weather spoils everything) |
Everybody seems to be selling something, but they don't shout at you here. If you buy, you buy; if you don't; you don't. |
These trees are everywhere. So gorgeous. Can T. Farris or her Granni help me out on the name? |
In Guangzhou they drive on the same side of the street as us. |
Notice his "fat boy" towel. That must be carried everywhere because it's so HOT. |
Public toilets. No one knows what you mean if you say "rest room". You must say toilet. |
And this is what you get. Yeah, um, I held it all day until we got back to the hotel. |
More sights to come.
